All Things Open, 2021

Conference check-in: Is anyone attending in person or virtually? Anyone have a talk accepted? Anything Bryan can do to support? Let’s touch base. We will have an opportunity to send attendees a message in a pre-event email. (Maybe a chance to promote OpenOrgTV?) We’ll also have virtual booth staffing opportunities on October 18 and 19, 09:00 17:00 (Eastern).

Ideas:

- Open Leadership Definition presentation (recorded)?
- Feature videos we've recorded on other projects?
- Feature an episode of AtA?

Project Updates

Open Leadership Definition

Anyone can track project progress on GitHub via this issue. At the moment, we’re preparing to circulate the final draft for review. We’re also writing promotional collateral (vision statements, tweets and posts, video scripts, etc.). Next step: Announce the “release candidate” for community and stakeholder review. This is an opportunity for folks to have “one last look” before we officially release on theopenorganization.org. Decided: We’ll send a personal note to everyone who colloaborated on the first draft, then advertise the release candidate more broadly a few days later. Final release day is August 23. So we need to think about promotional strategy. Our list is available online and anyone can modify it. We’ll create an issue to track promotional activity.

OpenOrgTV

Ask the Ambassadors episodes are rolling out and looking good. Also working on a playlist of videos promoting books in our library (the Leaders Manual, the Workbook, etc.). Request for help: Someone to take responsibility for LinkedIn promotion of new videos (decided: Laura and Jen will help).

Website updates

We just updated our “Definitions” page to prepare for launch of the Open Leadership Definition. We’ve got some nice updates planned for the future. Would like to do a visual refresh in the fall/winter to make the site a little more welcoming and appealing (it’s pretty text-heavy at the moment).

Publication Updates

Review the queue

Please review the editorial queue to track outstanding items and plan publication schedule for the coming month.

Ambassador Updates

Heidi

Taking a new course in Brandeis University’s Open Source Technology Management program.

Ron

Working on several article series right now. Next series is on social norms and “loose cultures” versus “tight cultures” (Rule Makers, Rule Breakers); wants to tie this into promotion for the Open Leadership Definition.
